Legal Updates

The new No Fault Divorce comes into effect on 6th April 2022.  This change to divorce law allows couples either together or individually to end their marriage without one partner having to blame the other for unreasonable or unfair behaviour, or the requirement to separate for long periods of time.  No longer can an aggrieved partner contest a divorce, if one partner decides they have had enough the marriage is over.

This immediately creates a quicker and less painful process and it is hoped will allow couples to move on more readily in what is often a difficult time. No longer will you hear the words decree nisi or decree absolute.  You will apply for a conditional order for divorce then, following a minimum six month notification period you will receive your final order of divorce.
